Cyril McLoughlin kindly offered to lead our walk yesterday. We met at Gleeson’s Spar shop in Portroe, the hardy souls were Marese Dolan Hutchinson, Louise Roden, Miriam Mulcahy, Frank Guy, David and Mary Williams and myself. It was lovely to meet David and Mary who joined the club last year; they live in Dublin and have a daughter living in Cloughjordan who runs a circus school. They own a Drascombe Lugger.
We parked at the Graves of the Leinster Men and our two hour walk in torrential rain and strong winds took us to the top of Tountina, needless to say there was no view! Cyril is a keen experienced walker who knows the area well which was especially important considering the weather; he thoughtfully brought extra walking sticks that we needed to keep ourselves upright! However we all really enjoyed the walk and chat and a restorative bowl of chowder was much appreciated in Larkins where we met Deirdre O’Driscoll, Reggie and Hjordis.
Next year we might go along the Nenagh River and admire James and Charlotte’s daffodils, spring is a good time of year for the walk.
Cyril is very happy to show us other walks in the area so if there are any members interested we could organise them during the coming months, please get in touch with me.
